2011 was a year for innovation among auto makers, with BMW, Subaru and Kia being among those to debut new production models. BMW’s 1 Series M coupe was VERY small and VERY fast, while the 2011 3 Series remained a luxurious choice for drivers who prefer sedans. The 2011 3 Series was actually slightly lighter than the 2010, even though it’s longer and wider: BMW introduced aluminium components in 2011, while hybrids and all-wheel drive models would follow the year after.
Anybody who keeps up with Japanese manufacturers’ offerings will remember Toyota’s 86 debut. The 86 is a real screamer, with a powerful boxer engine and rear-wheel drive to boot - great for anybody who likes a visceral driving experience. At the other end of the spectrum, Kia delivered a pleasant surprise with the Rio taking on some much-needed European styling.
